For those of you who don't know, the legendary EPCOT ride Horizons is slated for an untimely demise. As soon as Test Track opens late this year, the prevailing rumour is that Horizons will be gutted and replaced with a Space Pavillion. While the idea of a Space pavillion is nothing new, dating back to EPCOT plans from the mid-70's, the idea of nuking Horizons to build the Space pavillion is.
This website was whipped up with the firm belief that Horizons should be saved. It's always been a favourite of mine since I was a kid, and to me it represents the idealistic future that Walt stood for. In fact, it's about all that remains in EPCOT that I really thinks evokes Walt's spirit.
While the fate of Horizons seems sealed, there remains the fact that they can't shut it down until the fall when Test Track is scheduled to open. With the way things have been proceeding, it's possible that Test Track might be delayed even more. This gives us several months to bombard Mike Eisner and the boys with letters and try to persuade them to SAVE HORIZONS!
While this website is inspired by the Herculean efforts of JT Toad to save Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, I cannot pretend to devote such energies to saving Horizons. I'm 10 hours away and cannot easily make a fuss on a regular basis. So, instead, I will provide you the addresses and encourage you to WRITE! No cause is a lost cause, and if we remind them that people love Horizons then we may prevail yet. Simply say that you love Horizons. Point out that it still provides a modern look at the future and only needs a mild rehab. And point out that there's still gaping holes on the other side of Future World for them to build in!
OK, now's the time to get busy. As I have time over the next few weeks, I'll add histories, pictures, and details of Horizons here so check back often. This site will grow, but I just wanted to get something up ASAP so we could get to work.
